Positive Behaviour Support Services in Penrith
Allied Health 2U provides Positive Behaviour Support services in Penrith and across Greater Western Sydney. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach for participants with disability who experience behaviours of concern.
PBS focuses on understanding why a behaviour is happening, building skills, improving quality of life, and reducing the use of restrictive practices. Our registered Behaviour Support Practitioners have been delivering PBS face-to-face across Greater Sydney since 2015, from the Inner West through to the Northern Beaches, with strong delivery into Penrith and the Western Sydney corridor.
Telehealth is also available right across Australia for participants outside our face-to-face zones.

What Is Behaviour Support and How Is It Funded?
Allied Health 2U is a registered Behaviour Support Service provider with the NDIS Commission. Penrith participants access PBS funding through the NDIS support category, Improved Relationships.
Behaviour support involves working with NDIS participants who have behaviours of concern and require structured behaviour support interventions. Understanding the underlying causes of a behavior and developing strategies that have a long-lasting impact on daily life are more important than simply controlling a behavior in the moment.
What Does a Behaviour Support Practitioner Do?
A Functional Behaviour Assessment is the first of several tests that Behavior Support Practitioners use to determine each participant's needs.
Our Penrith practitioners build behaviour support plans grounded in Psychology, Counselling, Psychotherapy, Rehabilitation Counselling, and mental health Occupational Therapy, giving each behaviour support plan a strong clinical foundation.
Coordinated Care Across Allied Health Services
Our Penrith behaviour support practitioners work alongside our mobile Occupational Therapists and mobile Psychologists, keeping Penrith participants who need more than one service coordinated under one team.
When the people around a participant share the same goals, progress is faster. Stronger social connections are often one of the first changes families notice as behaviours reduce and confidence builds.
PBS Support for Older Penrith Participants
For older Penrith participants with behaviours of concern who have improved Relationships funding, our Penrith behaviour support practitioners work most closely with our mental health Occupational Therapists. Ageing can bring change, and behaviours that were once settled may shift as communication, memory, or physical health change over time.
Our approach stays the same at any age. We take the time to understand what is driving the behaviour, then build practical strategies that suit the person's everyday life, whether they are living at home, with family, or in supported accommodation.
Who Penrith Positive Behaviour Support is For
PBS is for any Penrith NDIS participant who experiences behaviours of concern, regardless of age or diagnosis. We work with children, adults and older participants right across Penrith and Western Sydney, in homes, schools, supported accommodation, and the community.
Penrith Children and Adolescents
PBS for Penrith children with developmental disability, autism, intellectual disability or behaviours of concern at home, school or in the community.
Penrith Adults
PBS for adults living independently, in supported accommodation or with family across Penrith, including complex behaviours and restrictive practice reduction.
Older Penrith Participants
Behaviour Support for older NDIS participants in Penrith, including those experiencing behaviours of concern alongside cognitive change.
Families and Support Workers
Training and coaching for Penrith families, support workers and SIL teams so the whole team can support the participant well.
A Penrith Behaviour Support Practitioner will initially come out to meet the participant who requires behaviour support intervention or a Behaviour Support Plan.
The first step involves the practitioner completing a thorough Functional Behaviour Assessment to identify the participant's behaviours of concern and note them all down. The practitioner communicates directly with the participant, as well as the people who spend the most time with them, family, support workers and the broader Penrith support team.
Once the behaviours of concern have been identified, the practitioner will determine which additional assessments the people around the participant may need to complete.
From there, the practitioner writes a behaviour assessment report detailing the relevant behaviours of concern. They then develop a Behaviour Support Plan that provides clear guidance on how to best support and respond to those behaviours across the Penrith participant's everyday environments.
There are a range of reasons why behaviours of concern may occur. All behaviours of concern happen for a reason. The reason depends on each individual. Some of the common reasons include:
- The individual may be in pain
- Their medication may not be agreeing with them
- The individual may be sick
- The individual has a condition such as autism, schizophrenia or Prader Willi syndrome
- The individual is not eating well
- Their hormones may not be working properly
- The individual may be hungry or thirsty and not know how to communicate that
- The individual may want to go somewhere, do something, or feel lonely and not be able to communicate effectively
- The individual may show behaviours of concern to get something they want, such as spending time with someone, accessing a preferred item, or avoiding a task they do not want to do
- There may be something about the environment they do not like, for example it is too noisy or too quiet, too hot or too cold, there are unpleasant smells, they cannot reach something, there are too many people around, or they are bored
Understanding the why behind the behaviour is the foundation of effective Positive Behaviour Support, and it is the first thing our Penrith practitioners work on with every participant.
As a registered NDIS provider operating in Sydney since 2015, our Penrith Behaviour Support Practitioners have the skills and experience to deliver behaviour assessment reports, Behaviour Support Plans, behaviour therapy and implementation support to NDIS participants across Australia.
Our team helps Penrith participants work toward their NDIS goals around independence, community participation and overall wellbeing.
