Positive Behaviour Support Services in Hornsby
Allied Health 2U provides Positive Behaviour Support services in Hornsby. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach for participants with disability who experience behaviours of concern.
PBS focuses on understanding why a behaviour is happening, building skills, improving quality of life, and reducing the use of restrictive practices. Our registered Behaviour Support Practitioners have been delivering PBS face-to-face across Greater Sydney since 2015, from the Inner West to the Northern Beaches, Western Sydney to the Sutherland Shire, including Hornsby and the wider Upper North Shore.

What Is Behaviour Support and How Is It Funded?
Allied Health 2U is a registered Behaviour Support Service provider with the NDIS Commission, supporting Hornsby participants through the NDIS support category, Improved Relationships.
Behaviour support involves working with NDIS participants who have behaviours of concern and require structured behaviour support interventions. It is not just about managing a behaviour in the moment. It is about understanding what is driving that behaviour and building the practical strategies that make a lasting difference in everyday life.
Hornsby sits on the northern edge of Sydney metro, and we know from experience that participants in the Upper North Shore often deal with a smaller pool of available providers than participants closer to the CBD. Our practitioners deliver face-to-face sessions across the region on a scheduled cadence, supported by telehealth between visits, so consistent access is genuinely maintainable rather than dependent on last-minute availability.
What Does a Behaviour Support Practitioner Do?
Behaviour Support Practitioners carry out a range of assessments to understand each participant's needs, starting with a Functional Behaviour Assessment.
Our Hornsby practitioners hold backgrounds in Psychology, Counselling, Psychotherapy, Rehabilitation Counselling, and mental health Occupational Therapy, giving each behaviour support plan a strong clinical foundation. For paediatric participants, our practitioners coordinate with Hornsby schools and Diverse Learning teams to make sure the plan works consistently across home and school.
Coordinated Care Across Allied Health Services
Our Hornsby behaviour support practitioners work alongside our mobile occupational therapists and mobile psychologists, keeping participants who need more than one service coordinated under one team. Given the Upper North Shore's distance from most Sydney allied health hubs, coordinated care through a single provider is often the most practical option for Hornsby families juggling multiple appointments. When the people around a participant share the same goals, progress is faster.
PBS Support for Older Hornsby Participants
For older Hornsby participants with behaviours of concern who have Improved Relationships funding, our positive behaviour support practitioners work most closely with our mental health Occupational Therapists. Ageing can bring change, and behaviours that were once settled may shift as communication, memory, or physical health change over time.
Our approach stays the same at any age. We take the time to understand what is driving the behaviour, then build practical strategies that suit the person's everyday life, whether they are living at home with family, in an established household of long standing, or in supported accommodation across the Upper North Shore. Many of our Hornsby older participants have been in the same community for decades, and the plans we build take that continuity into account.
Who Hornsby Positive Behaviour Support is For
PBS is for any Hornsby NDIS participant who experiences behaviours of concern, regardless of age or diagnosis. We work with children, adults and older participants right across the Upper North Shore, in homes, schools, supported accommodation and the community.

Behaviour support for older NDIS participants in Hornsby experiencing behaviours of concern alongside cognitive change, often in long-established Upper North Shore households.
Families and Support Workers
Training and coaching for Hornsby families, support workers and SIL teams so the whole team can support the participant well.
Providing PBS in Hornsby begins with a Functional Behaviour Assessment in the participant's actual environment, whether that is the family home, school, day program, or community setting. From there, our practitioner develops a behaviour support plan tailored to the participant, their family, and the people supporting them day-to-day. The plan is then implemented through direct work with the participant, coaching of family and support workers, and ongoing review as progress unfolds.
Behaviours of concern almost always serve a purpose for the person. They might be communicating an unmet need, expressing distress when something feels overwhelming, responding to a sensory environment that is too much, or signalling that a routine has changed in a way the person cannot articulate. The job of behaviour support is to understand what the behaviour is communicating, then build the skills, environment and support around it so the participant has better ways to meet that need.
For Hornsby participants, PBS is typically delivered through scheduled face-to-face practitioner visits in the home, school, or community across the Upper North Shore, supported by telehealth sessions in between for plan implementation and review work with family and support workers. We schedule Upper North Shore visits on a consistent rhythm rather than fitting the region in around other bookings, so families get reliable access rather than ad-hoc availability.
