Forensic Psychology
What is Forensic Psychology?
Forensic Psychology is the application of psychological knowledge and assessment within legal, justice and disability contexts. At Allied Health 2U, our forensic psychology service supports individuals with disability who intersect with the legal system, providing thorough assessments, expert reports and clinical opinions for courts, NDIS planners, support coordinators and legal teams. Our psychologists deliver forensic psychology face to face across Greater Sydney, Illawarra and the Central Coast, with telehealth available Australia wide.
Allied Health 2U is a registered NDIS organisation, and our forensic psychology service sits within our broader psychology team. We work alongside support coordinators, plan managers, families, solicitors and corrective services to provide assessments and reports that genuinely reflect a person's psychological functioning and support needs.
Forensic psychology is highly specialised. People with intellectual disability, autism, acquired brain injury and complex mental health presentations are significantly overrepresented in the Australian justice system, and standard assessment processes are not always designed with their needs in mind. Our psychologists bring clinical training, trauma informed practice and experience working within multi disciplinary teams, so that reports are clear, evidence based and useful to everyone involved.
Our forensic psychology team works closely with our Positive Behaviour Support practitioners and broader psychology team where a participant requires both assessment and ongoing support. This integrated approach is one of the reasons support coordinators continue to refer to Allied Health 2U.
Forensic psychology assessments may be funded under the NDIS Capacity Building category, specifically Improved Daily Living, depending on the participant's plan and the purpose of the assessment.
